CASE STUDY: F50 SAIL GRAND PRIX

The Sail GP is an annual international sailing competition that features high-performance, cutting-edge F50 foiling catamarans. Teams from around the world compete in a season of multiple Grand Prix, with racing taking place in some of the most iconic harbours around the globe. In February this year, it was Sydney’s chance to host this awe-inspiring event. Over two days of intense competition, the Australian team made history, emerging victorious.

1300TempFence had the pleasure of supplying a range of products for this event and our expert Sydney team worked diligently to transform the locations of; Shark Island, Glebe Island Tech Site, Rose Bay Broadcast Compound and Barangaroo Event Village into safe and secure spaces for the event to take place in. Navigating installation for the event across all four sites, was like no other, and the team faced unique challenges along the way.

1300TempFence were contracted to supply and deliver:

Shark Island

  • 122M Temp Fence,
  • 37 Supports stays
  • 120M 70% Shade Cloth
  • 58M Crowd Control Barriers

Glebe Island Tech Site

  • 660M Temp Fence
  • 140 Support stays
  • 500M Weedmat
  • 264M Crowd Control Barriers

Rose Bay Broadcast Compound

  • 119M Temp Fence
  • 36 Support stays
  • 120M 70% Shade Cloth
  • 11M Crowd Control Barriers

Barangaroo Event Village

  • 83M Temp Fence
  • 25 Support stays
  • 400M Crowd Control Barriers

Challenges:
The installation at Shark Island involved the delivery of our products to Glebe Island Wharf which was then transported by barge to Shark Island by our customers F50. Limited access meant that our staff were ferried by a private chartered boat from Rose Bay wharf to Shark Island to begin the installation process. Once work was complete, they were then transported back via boat to Rose Bay.

Due to the complexity and scale of this project, it was essential to maintain constant communication with the event site managers and sub-contractors. This ensured that everyone was on the same page regarding timelines and allowed for any changes or potential delays to be addressed promptly. Our flexible approach to scheduling and quick response to on-site needs played a crucial role in achieving a seamless execution of the event.
